Do your drains gurgle, smell or back up? or…

Do your stormwater drains not drain away when it rains?

We unblock both sewer and stormwater drains.

Did you know?

Tree Roots are one of the most common causes of blocked drains.

In some cases, a blocked sewer drain may be blocked by something innocent such as a build up of soap scum, hair, toothpaste or maybe too much toilet paper, solidified kitchen fats, kids toys etc.

A blocked stormwater drain can be blocked by a build up of leaves, grass, gravel or debris that has made its way into your stormwater drain.

However…

It is common for a blocked sewer or blocked stormwater drain to be caused by a crack in the pipe and tree roots growing inside. (Check out some blocked drains we have encounted below)

When tree roots are the cause and it is not addressed correctly, the blockage will only continue and the roots will continue to grow inside.

No amount of plunging will ever clear a blocked drain correctly if it is caused by tree roots.

Whether your blocked drains are caused by a build up of soap scum or something more serious as tree roots, Hutchins Plumbing & Gas will get your drains working as they should be.

How do tree roots get in the pipes?

Pipes underground are ridged and, over time, the ground moves which causes the pipes to crack. Once a crack in the drain occurs, roots enter the drain for nutrients. It only takes one tiny root to enter the drain and, once inside, it grows rapidly, fully blocking the drain.

How do we unblock pipes?

A two-step process is followed to rectify the problem:

1.   The roots need to be cleared to get the drain running so you can use your showers, toilets and sinks. We use a High Pressure Water Jetter to Clear the Blockage. Once clear, we do a camera survey to locate the cause of the blockage.

(If the blockage is caused by a cracked/damaged pipe with roots growing inside, Step 2 would need to be undertaken.)

2.  Once the cause is located- such as a crack in the pipe.. If necessary, we would excavate the drain and remove the cracked/damaged section of pipe and replace it with a new section of pipe to help prevent further issues. After replaced, The drain is then backfilled.

(If the cracked/damaged section is not replaced, the drain will only continue to cause problems.)

Have your blocked drains cleared & fixed correctly.

No amount of plunging will ever clear your drains properly if tree roots are the cause…
